Default New Style Starter Bendix Fitting.

Ordered a new starter motor for 59A engine.
It came with the "new style" bendix fitted! These require the entry point where starter motor bolts to to be "relieved " to allow fitting.
How much requires to be removed, from what side exactly. Is it a simple in situ that can be done?
Appreciate any advice. Really wanted new starter with an original style new bendix without any grinding to fit?

VanPlet sells the original style Bendix. He posted recently about removing the new style one and replace them with the original style.

Phil, if your old Bendix isn't shot, can you re-use it on the new starter?

Phil, do your best to use the same OEM Bendix style starter.

Was going to go with the new original style as offered from Third Generation.
Have had great success with all parts from these people who always give that little bit more in service.

With the engine I have in now I know I took a little off the side of the opening, just enough with a die grinder to make it easier to get in and out while it was on the engine stand and I could see whats going on. This is a left hand drive vehicle I assume your is?

I made the mistake of replacing an original Bendix with a reproduction, which broke after no more than 100 starts.

Replaced on my 59A/B with the new mushroom style. I was able to wiggle it into place without any grinding. It has worked fine for four years.

Took the old bendix of the old starter and fitted to new starter.
This was for a 59a rebuilt engine on the run stand. Finally got a run on the engine. Well pleased. To check timing yet as fitted a timing pointer when I had a head off.
New old style bendix from 3rd Generation can be fitted at a later date.
Appreciate all suggestions and advice offered.
