Where to start ?
A former owner converted from generator to alternator. As far as I can tell it does not appear to charge. I took a voltmeter and put the neg terminal on rear stud and positive to ground, sped up engine with no change showing on meter ? Where to go next ?

Re: Where to start ?
Is it a single wire alternator? Some alternators, four wire, require an exciter wire to be able to charge. But if not I would pull it off and have it tested.

Yes Ralph it is a single wire. I found a receipt where the guy paid a hefty price for this and wondered why for that money he didn't just have the generator rebuilt with bucks to spare. Hard to understand people's thinking sometimes ?

Re: Where to start ?
Is the alternator setup for positive ground? 6v or 12v?
