Default '40 Trico W/Wiper motor

Rigarmortis set in the Trico wiper motor in the '40. Moves slow, and in only one direction. Tried all the oil injection tricks suggested, no go. Opened up the cadaver and found crud and solidified grease & oil, probably from the old engine blowby. What is the safest solvent to use to clean it so I don't damage and seals or gaskets ? Is there some kind of a wiper seal between the flapper bowl and flapper that seals it to the bowl ? Also, where do you buy replacement parts like seals and gaskets ? Thank you Fordbarners.

It looks like it needs a good cleaning, that's all, as it works. Any cleaning solvent suggestions.

I would recommend Fricken as well.

Hey, the man wants to fix it himself. I find a good soaking in Kerosene and elbow grease with a tube brush works. The flapper paddle felt is what needs to be softened up so it moves easily in the bowel.

If I don't do it myself, how am I going to learn anything. I cleaned it with kero and a soft brass brush, the flapper moves nice and easy now. Need gaskets, and Ficken says he does not sell them, probably holding onto them for his business. Any sources anyone knows of. also need the felt, part #87413-3. I have an article from maybe the Model A magazine on how to service the Trico motor, with illustrations and part #s. Not exactly the same as the '40, but it get you where you need to go. Took a lot of pictures during disassembly, they were invaluable. Let me know if you wan the article. Thank you Fordbarners.

You are right Russ, A few years ago Ricken bought out all the wiper parts that came available and we all let it happen. I have a couple of gaskets that might help but have no way to tell unless you try them. If you will send me your address I will send them and you can try. I made them so even
if they are for the right wiper you might have to fiddle with them. I also have a 1939 late passenger wiper motor 17508 (Trico Sk 46)pictured bottom of page 636 of the Ford Green Bible that may work and you might consider. [email protected]
