Wow, you are spot on. Character is the perfect word for how I want this truck to be. It will be fixed/repaired where needed but that is it. Paint might be touched up to all blend together but the originality of it will stay.

I have seen the resent panels on the auction site. Too much work for the money. I am willing to pay the same price as repo's for originals that are good.

If I can find my originals I would swap you for a pair of repros. I'm gonna paint them shiney white anyway. Probably be back in my garage Sunday. I think I stashed them in a file cabinet.

The 35 is always a favorite of mine. You are doing a very nice job.It does take a bit of money to restore but in the end it will be well worth the money and effort.Will be watching your progress.George

Bit of good news, I just got two flatheads from barn member funrunr. A 1940 59 and a 46 59AB. The later turns over so hopefully I will have a power plant for this old girl. Also made a deal with Scott for his bed panels. Now it is putting together the puzzle. Getting excited now.

So the two flatheads did not happen. Both were too big an investment for me to make a runner. I do however have a deal with a barner for a nice running '40 flathead so things are looking good. I got the lower filler panels from Scott and they were exactly what I needed. Rash, dings, 81 years worth of abuse. The one thing I did not like was the bed reveal on one was pretty much squashed flat. I made up a little die and in about half an hour, it looks almost as it should.

Thanks Scott! Today my buddy Kirk delivered something I had to have. My 35 frame was toast and it came with a '39 frame ( which is under the truck now) but it had rust in it's past and somebody replaced the entire sides about 4 feet long and a lot of holes that I need we're welded up. I really wanted a virgin frame and he came back from California with this beautiful '39 frame. I don't think I have ever seen one this nice. I am going to now swap my truck over to this frame.

Been a little while so I thought I would update this. Bought a running take out 37 engine from a guy in Milwaukee. It is getting picked up from a buddy tomorrow and delivered when he comes to autorama. The original 35 trans is done and ready. Talked to the guy that bought the engine that was in my truck (a '37 with block off plates and my original 35 heads, etc. and we are swapping the 37 stuff from my engine for the original 35 stuff. Happy about that!

The truck is getting taken apart so that I can start on the new chassis. I am going to do the chassis first and then start in on the sheetmetal work.

35 was the first year the shifter curved back toward the seat. A minister told me that 1955 when we went to see him about getting hooked in a 35 coupe. Walt

All the pictures I see, showing the front of the engine in the donor truck, tell me that you have a '37 or early '38, 21 stud block, using block off plates where the '37-'48 style waterpumps would normally bolt on. I drug one home similar to this one ~ 10 years ago, but in worse condition than yours. I salvaged what I could, sold off the parts I didn't want/need, and hauled what was left to the scrap yard. If I can find some pictures, I will post them here.

John you should see my Friends eyes light up when you talk about a 37 motor. he thinks a 37 motor is one of the best Flatheads ever made!
