30/31 Radiator Neck Orientation
I'm replacing a messed up radiator neck.
Should the notches on the top of the neck be parallel or perpendicular to the top of the radiator so the quail will point straight ahead? |

Re: 30/31 Radiator Neck Orientation
Someone posted that information a few years ago, but I don't have it. If you have the quail cap and neck in hand, I'd put them together and mark the neck to the radiator. Also be sure to mark the height. Put the shell on the radiator and amke sure to mark the correct height, then take it apart and solder it. Be sure no solder drop inside. My friend has quite a bit of solder laying loose in the top tank.

The Ford Service Bulletins have the original data on this (see below) but having just done this, I agree with Tom and recommend that you also fit the cap to the neck and mark the location.

Has anyone had a problem with the inside diameter of the repro necks being too small? I currently don't have a quail but I tried the base of a motometer and the neck ID is too small to allow the 'screw blocks' in the base to turn. The original neck on the radiator is in pretty bad shape but the ID is bigger and the motometer base does fit down in it. Sounds like a call to the vendor in the a.m. is in order |
