One thing leads to another. Putting on a new head gasket this week & the starter quite working, just spinning. Found the armature shaft had split & also ruined the bendix. I had never heard of the shaft splitting.
Another day working on the A is a good day though.

Where did it split?
Is this the 1/2" shaft, or the later 5/8" shaft?
Any pictures?
