52 F1 hood removal
Hi
What’s the best way to remove the hood. The double springs on each side look to be under stress when the hood is open.

Re: 52 F1 hood removal
Raise the hood as far as it will go and hold it there. Remove cotter pins and washers and remove spring arm from pin. There should be no preassure on the spring arm pins when you slide the arm off the pin.

Re: 52 F1 hood removal
Bill thanks
Ok I see the cotter pin and the pin that I would remove after removing cotter pin. Just being on safe side (see pic) please confirm these springs are not under stress after pulling pin

Re: 52 F1 hood removal
Had my F1 hood off many times, even did it by myself....Wife says, "That's dumb!"
1. I open hood and place a long broomstick, mop handle, pole, etc between the front bottom of the hood, down behind the grill and securely on to the air dam to hold the hood open as far as you can. It will be wobbley... Here is where you decide to get help, or prove my wife's assessment. 2. place a 1 foot piece of wood, I prefer 2x6 on the fender at the rear of the opening under the edge of the open hood. This will be a resting place for the rear of the hood after you remove the attaching pieces. 3. Be sure any cowl vent is closed. I messed up a fresh paint job on mine once leaving it open. 4. Remove cotter pin from the spring and the two small bolts holding the hood to the hinge arms. You should find that the arms are actually slid over a little nub and will stay in place with the bolts removed, leave them in place. Do the same to the other side. 5. Best to believe my wife and have someone on the other side from you while performing this part. Now you can slide the pieces (hinge and swing arms) apart letting the hood corners rest on those wooden blocks. "You can do it by yourself." 6. Remove the hood prop and lower the front of the hood. 7. If you are young and spry from the front of the truck you can lift the hood off. Note: I just had hernia surgery last Friday..... I proved that my wife is wise... Hope this makes sense, Chap |
