Default 500 Points Car ?

Group,

Looking through the Judging Standards from the Model A Judging Book, I saw that the maximum number of points you can get for your car is 500.

Has anyone had a 500 point car ? Seems like it should be possible.

I believe Marcos roadster is the highest scoring car ever and he was in the very high 400's. I think you need NOS oil and gas in the motor to get 500. Probably new NOS air from the Rouge in the tires also!!

http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/henryaward.htm shows Marco's 40B Deluxe Roadster as 491 points in 1996. Bill Edstrom equaled him and Will Cronkrite scored 492 in 2012.

But who is counting. Just to make it to the list is a notable achievement.

And one will never forget winning - but will be sad as the car can't stay either in peak condition - or the recordholder forever.

Don't cry because it's over
, smile because it happened.

I've never made a single change to my car since completed but scored 498 many years later under tougher but better judging.

I should add, in 1996 I lost 2 points because the black felt floor pad around the column and pedals "wasn't black enough" even though they had never seen a black one before that. I lost 2 more points for my rumble seat side cardboards because they had never seen them done like original before. The one that really 'takes the cake' is losing 3 points for not having a drain hole in my muffler canister that it of course was not supposed to have.

So you have a BIG smile now?

Well I know I would in similar situ.

Do you have plans to write a "coaching book" and describe your trials and successes?

It may be a marketable commodity - AND would aid the hobby and further raise the competition level. And (best) inspire others to improve their own vehicle?

Gosh, you know SO much about every piece (i.e. the recent discussion of wishbones)

Were you to leave us it would take YEARS to re-acquire/collect that information. If it could be done.

Whatever. A suggestion. I'm sure you have plenty to do - like most of us.

Life is like that FREQUENTLY.

Best regards,
Joe K

I've been showing, driving and maintaining my 12/10/28 station wagon since I finished it in 1974. Last year we drove it 100+ miles to the Northern Calif. regional meet and, because it has an overdrive, showed it in the touring class. It scored 469. The best of show car scored 471. Because I keep it garaged and detailed it stays looking fresh.

Marco,

With regard to the score of 498...how did you lose 2 points ?

Also, do you feel that 500 point cars should be possible ?

We've all lost points where they should have awarded us full credit. I lost points on my NOS steering wheel as a repop. I also got "red alert" on my brakes that scored full points the year before at a national meet. At the same meet, I lost points in area 22 because of a mistake in addition. It can't be changed after the fact. Oh well! I sored 492 at the MARC National Meet in Dearborn in 2003 and received my Henry. I know that if judged today, it would not score that high. It is amazing how fast they begin to weather.
