Re: Front Tool Box
I am the original designer and manufacturer of the tool box that replaces the radiator apron and follows the contour of the frame horns. I believe it is still shown on my website, olympicspeedsters.com . I gave MikesAfordable the exclusive rights to sell them. The image posted by Y-BLOCKHEAD looks exactly like the ones I supplied to Mike's. They were expensive to make and I didn't make a profit, but had the satisfaction of conceiving the product and seeing it through production and sales. I still have a couple set aside for future personal cars. '28/'29 and '30/'31's were different. I still have the patterns, jigs, tooling and several un-assembled panels rusting in the back room. One problem with marketing them is that few frame horns today are shaped like they were from the factory and even though mine are shaped to match the factory shape, they don't fit bent frame horns, so I had to make them to stand nearly 1/4" above the fender flanges that lay on the horn, allowing room to try to hide a bad frame horn. So a big danger in this kind of endeavor is that people will complain that a perfect part doesn't fit. Public complaining can destroy everything I have worked for all of my life and on top of that, I make no profit for the effort. Tonight I considered selling the parts so people could weld them together themselves, but that would quadruple the likelihood of complaints about fit when amateur attempts are made to jig and weld. You can contact me and discuss possibilities. My contact info is on my web site.

I'd just like to say "Thank You" for designing and producing this in the first place - I am VERY satisified with the one I bought just about two years ago - it just looks so natural and blends in quite well on my 1930 Town Sedan - like it's meant to be there. |

I carry a bottle jack, HF Wheel Chock, A couple of pieces of 4X4, a lug wrench and some rags. My only complaint is that it is not very secure. Even tho it has a lock I can open it by pulling the back of the lid (where the lock is) toward the front of the car to unlatch the lock. |

Not pretty like those, but here is a 3 min video of a very low cost one I have built a few times for my cars. Works good.

Re: Front Tool Box
Jim,
If you ever decide to make more of the 30-31 tool boxes, I want one! I tried to find one several years ago only to find out that they had been discontinued. Just reading this thread, it looks like there’s quite a lot of interest in them. Price them so you can make it worthwhile!

Did you try asking Smith and Jones Antique Auto Parts if they have one in stock? It's still listed on their website for $185 - part #A-18085 (this is the exact same price I paid for mine two years ago, from Mike's Afordable) |

Re: Front Tool Box
I have a couple lids if you want to make your own box. Awhile back Mikes was getting rid of excess stock. My plan was to have a few boxes made but it proved to be too expensive. The lids I have are for ‘30-‘31. I can email pictures. I put a 2in hole inside the box and modified the crank to turn the motor over. Lids are $50 plus shipping.

Re: Front Tool Box
Would the “lid” come with prints for the rest of the parts?

Re: Front Tool Box
Yea, that's a problem with having a tool box on the front, covering the crank hole. I use a bent up 1⅜" wrench to turn the engine over for timing. Of course you can't use it the start the engine...

Re: Front Tool Box
Has anybody mounted a tool box at the rear of the car? It might not get as water soaked. If it were under the rear it might be more secure from theft of tools and possibly mounted on a tray that when unlocked would swivel out from under on one side like the tray at a dentist chair. Tray attached on both sides, swivel on one side.

Re: Front Tool Box
A friend mounted some drawers under his pickup bed that work quite well. Lockable.
I don't think many people want to steal your tools. The only time I lock my front bumper box is when I stay at a motel. The pad lock is hanging there, but not locked. |

Re: Front Tool Box
Hello everyone,
today I received Jim's Tool Box on a friendly basis. It fits perfectly! I am proud to be able to drive this beautiful accessory on our Little Green Roadster! Thank you, Jim!

Re: Front Tool Box
Is there an adaption for the crank (Extension) and might it work with a hole in the back of your beautiful tool box that I always show off to other Model A owners.

Re: Front Tool Box
Yesterday I finally installed the Jim Huseby tool box. To mount is a lot of time, but easy to do. Lots of washers and courage to bend some sheet metal are necessary. The box is rectangular and straight. But the car plates no longer after 90 years.
After a lot of fumbling and trying I was satisfied after 2 hours. It's a very nice piece that Jim created!
