Brake drums. Parts is parts?
Shopping online for new juice brake drums for my Sedan I find that Speedway has them much cheaper than any other vendor. Now the question is what is their quality? Anybody have experience with the drums sold by Speedway?
TIA, Chris

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
Parts, are not parts. Better quality drums are available. MT products, Boling bros make an excellent drum. Yes it cost a little more, but hey, were talking brakes here, not chrome trim pieces!

They are not available at this time.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
Are they back ordered? Or have they stopped making them?
Maybe someone else knows of a source that’s not offshore made. |

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
They say they are back ordered. Which is strange if they are supposedly the ones making them. I would never let a product that I made become back ordered.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
MT drums are excellent quality. I have them on the back of my 36 and 41.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
Speedway drums are fine. Most all are made offshore these days anyway. I prefer making the switch to Bendix type brakes but either way Speedway sells good stuff. I retained juice brakes in the rear on my 40 wagon with Speedway drums. Later I am going to change those to Bendix too. Speedway also sells those conversion kits which are from MT anyway and cheaper. It saved me taxes because MT is also in CA. Speedway sold the same product tax free to me.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
MT supplies the conversion kits for Speedway and they are cheaper if you buy direct.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
It's almost impossible to find any brake parts (drums, master cylinders, etc) that are made in the USA.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
I bought front drums from Speedway for my 34 hydraulic conversion. They were both out of round and rubbed on the backing plate. I returned them for a full refund. No problem with Speedway. I think they are a good company. However, I bought Boling Bros drums and they were perfect. If they are difficult to get right now, it might still be worth the wait.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
I heard from Boling Brothers today. This is what they had to say,
"They are currently going through the machine shop, we estimate we should have them within the first couple of weeks of May." So I guess I am on hold until then.

Well worth the wait IMO.

Re: Brake drums. Parts is parts?
I also just checked with Boling Bros and their latest run of USA made drums are at the machine shop and expected back in stock the first of next month. I'll be running a 10% discount sale on their USA made brake parts next month.
