Default inspection/appraisal

Fellows, I am considering a east coast purchase and am on west coast. Has anyone had experience with any firms/persons offering inspections and appraisals?
Thanks Ralph

Ralph, the appraisers/inspectors do an O.K. job , but they have to be familiar with all makes of cars. It's like an "all purpose" spray gun. It will spray paint but the quality of the job may not be the best. If you use one make sure they know a lot about the make of car you are wanting to buy. They need to have knowledge of the good and bad points of the specific car. If it's a Ford I would check the V-8 Club roster and call some V-8ers who live in the area. They may know a good appraiser with knowledge of V-8 Fords or they may be able to do it for you. I have done this in the past and had good luck.

After the appraisal comes back good (or even after a good set of pictures) I would fly out there and look at the car in person. Cheap insurance. Be sure to take your camera to document what you looked at in case there is a problem when it arrives in California. Be extra careful that the paperwork and serial numbers match.
