Default Lower Ball Joints Replacement

is there anybody or any website that shows or give good instructions on how to do it yourself on replacing lower ball joints on a 1955 ford Victoria? They were replaced about two years ago(long story) and need new ones again. Can they be replaced in my garage, with some help from a friend? Dave

I've done it myself without any help before on two different '55 cars. You gotta remove front shock absorbers and use a coil spring compressor to hold the lower "A" arms from falling.
If ball joints are only two years old, they shouldn't need to be replaced unless there has been some major abuse. If you grease the ball joints every time you do an oil change, you should never need to replace them.

Easier done on a hoist. Either way, safety chain that spring.

You could probably even do it by yourself at home and if you have a buddy who can help that's even better. X2 on the chain. I've done ball joints using a jack to support the control arm and the car on jack stands. The toughest part, if there is one, is to separate the ball joint stud from the spindle.

Hi, I have a copy out of the ford repair manual, On how to test ball joints. I have used the instructions and passed it on to others and have not found a bad ball joint yet. If you don't have to replace the ball joints you could be a couple hundred dollars ahead. Worst case you might have to replace the boots. You can find them in euro-thane and it can last for ever. If you would like a copy, e mail me. Dave

I may be wrong as I've only done mid '50's to '70's Chev, Pont., & Olds but u will need a spring compressor (IMO safer than make shift safety chain) u will need a a drift taper ball join splitter to separate the joint. Again safer & easier. Easily borrowed or rented.
