Default 48 coupe- busted brake adjust cam in left front- what to do

When I pulled the drum today the adjuster cam was lying behind the brake rib. There is no adjuster nut or spring in back. It obviously fell off somewhere along the line.
As it happens, I have backing plates to salvage the pieces from, but what I would like to know is if anyone has repaired one before and how you did it.
