Lock vs. Castle nuts
Before I put my block back together, I'd like to go with a lock nut setup rather and the castle nut cotter pin arrangement for both mains and rods. Lots of locknut designs out there (Marsedn, top lock etc.). Has anyone gone this route? Would seem that the torque specs. would be a lot more accurate.
Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated. Pete |

Re: Lock vs. Castle nuts
Hello Peter,
There was a discusion regarding using lock nuts in Feb this year, seems any are OK except for Nylock in high temp use. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ight=lock+nuts |

Re: Lock vs. Castle nuts
Thanks Brian,
I checked out the discussion and I was pretty much answered my questions. I'll give NAPA a try. Pete |

Re: Lock vs. Castle nuts
Wouldn't using locknuts skew the torque values?

Re: Lock vs. Castle nuts
You calculate the running torque of the nut by using your torque wrench at a low setting and slowly increase the setting until the nut starts to turn on the thread. Then you add this to the required torque for the total torque required. This ensures you get the required clamping force from the nut.
