Default Oil pan gasket 59 ab

I've seen in other posts about installing new oil pan gaskets, even a thread with a few pix, & so far, I installed the rear cork fine, I put the front rope into the pan, but not sure about what's been said, to leave 3/64 at the ends. The main pan gasket goes all the way and covers the end of the rope, so why wouldn't I just cut the rope even with the pan flange? And I saw where a bit of white lithium grease was put on the rope during install?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

The ends of the rope seal needs to extend above the casting/pan surfaces. It forces the seal to compress when assembled.

Thanks, so you're saying put the pan gasket over the extended rope end and that helps compress the rope in and seal it, makes sense.
