Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
It looks like a '32 V8 fan to me. They only were used on the V8 and only for 1932. You need to measure the length of the spool in the center. Post this and someone will conform it is a '32.

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
I believe if under 4" tall its a 35-39 truck fan. If it's over 4" tall it is a 32 V-8 fan

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
It is correctly labelled as a '32 V-8 fan. The '37 fan is similar, but the ends of the blades are more symmetrically rounded and the length of the hub is shorter.
The fan in the photos is the version that was used on all but the very early '32 V8s and it is not all that 'rare'. The very early '32 V8s had two-blade fans (there were two versions of the two-blade fan, both of which were recalled, and both are truly 'rare'). |

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
Yes, quite different then 33. If you sit a 33 or 34 fan on a table on the mounting hub, the lower edge of the blades will almost or just touch the table.

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
The length of the hub alone on a '32 V8 fan is 3 3/4". See Dave's book page 38. This is a scarce fan.

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
I would have to go measure but it sure looks like the one on my 1930 Coupe. It was on my coupe when I bought it back in 1957.
Went out to the shop and measured my fan. it's only 1.5" but has the same blades on it. Last edited by Marvin/TN; 12-23-2017 at 03:48 PM. |

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
With respect, not likely unless your Model A has a V8 engine and corresponding generator and pulley on which the subject fan is mounted. The late '33-'34 four-cylinder fan has the same or nearly the same blades, but it is attached on the end of the water pump shaft with a hole all the way through the fan and a castle nut and cotter pin in front of the fan as well as an integrated pulley and no hub to speak of. It subsequently became the service part fan for all of the Model A and '32 fours.

David, saw a couple maybe 2 or 3 pcs. 2 bladed fans. Is there a simple way to tell what year they are for? 4 or V8? I cant take pictures now because they are not at my house but i will. Thanks! |

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
The four-cylinder fans all have an integral pulley and mount on the end of the water pump shaft (and therefore have a hole through the center). The V8 2-blade fans mount on the generator just like the fan in your photos (with four 1/4-28 hex bolts) and have no integrated pulley.
Here's a side view of the four-cylinder fan showing the integral pulley and the end of the water pump shaft protruding through the fan. Bill has provided photos of the second of the two V8 two-blade fans and those below are of the first version which is shorter front to back. The stamped steel fan blades are the same on the B and V8 two blade fans. The hubs of both V8 two blade fans are made of steel, not cast. Note the spot welds where the blades are attached to the hub. Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
the fan blade itself looks very much like the model A fans. a tin thing, not sure how they welded the two halves together, but they are famous for cracking near the center, which will send it rite thru the hood when it lets go!

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
I believe the entire fan is comprised of 4 pieces. The flange, the hub, and the blades look as though they are 2 halves sandwiched together down its length. As there are spot welds the entire length of the blades and the center of the blade has a opening that the hub goes into.

Re: Rare Fan Blade ?
This fan I personally found in the obsolete stock (back room) of a Ford Dealership in New Jersey about 1965. It is NOS and had a red Ford tag on it which has since fell off. The tag has 18-8600 on it. It still has its original factory black paint on it. I am sure the reason it was still there was that Ford motor co wanted the dealers to install the 4 blade type.
