I need to find someone to grind the point cam lobes to a Lincoln modification, I don't want to risk messing it up , someone on here about a year or so said they done it a few times, can anyone help me by grinding the lobes like it says in the hotrod book, I think I can do the strips on the end plates by myself, I would gladly pay for it, after I get it built I will send it to Bubba to get it phased and curved, I think it would be neat to have one of these distributors on my 59 a. I have two to modify, I bought one at the swap meet but they done the rotor and used the Lincoln points looks kind of unprofessional to me . I don't have my shop set up right now , I have been moving, also will it cause a problem to chrome plate the coil cover , I think this set up is a work of art although there are better systems out there, I just want to do it.

I have looked at the 9n dist. assy., fact my 9n needs a new one ,it has a lobe worn down, I may buy one and compare it then replace the bad one in my tractor. I am concerned about it being in phase with the rotor assy.

I wouldn't fear messing up the lobes. You are grinding off enough material so that those lobes don't open the points anymore. I don't think you can grind off too much. Knocking down those 4 high spots will allow the cam to just spin past the rubbing block on the points and not do anything.

Thanks guys,

Seth,
I have a Ford Distributor stroboscope (Later and early models) if you need to strobe it. Of course it looks like it needs a lot of rebuilding first. Happy to help,
I'm 60 some odd miles from you.

Hi Larry,

I need to get to a regional group meeting again soon. Work and two kids have kept me busy most of the summer. I picked this up when I bought the 1940 Tudor that Warren Stieg, a former regional group member, used to own. This distributor was in the package deal with about 2 trailer loads of parts I bought. I don't have any plans for it right now. I have had interest in it but haven't made up my mind as to keep it or sell it.

Question for Bubba, If I don't get the cam ground perfect on each place will it affect dwell on each time the points close and open, what I am asking is it possible to have the dwell all over the map if the lobes at not ground off equally on each side?

I guess if I was going to do it I would use the Harmon/Collins set up That came on my 32 When I picked it up and drove it home. Left a Camero at the lights and he sure looked surprised. Car was Dirty and looked like a JUNKER. Of course I would send it to Bubba to go through it first. kerk

Not as bad as it seems. Dwell is measured as a average of the entire circle.
So you could have 30,30,30,25,35,30 and still the meter would show 30 etc..(6 cylinder)
Thats why the old distributor machines and Sun testers allowed the tech to see all cylinders at one time. You were allowed 3 degrees of dwell variation before it was a problem.
