Default 1930 town sedan hole in cowl…what attached here?

On a 1930 Murray Town Sedan, what was attached to this hole in the front door opening of the cowl?

I would guess possibly a wood screw, but not certain. I am in the process of restoring a '29 Murray Fordor for my daughter and her family, so I will look the next time that I am over at their place to compare cowl sections. Obviously the Briggs and Murray bodies are different, as the Murray bodied fordors had indentions in the floor sills at this point (the lack of a bead on the bottom of the doors did not require the Briggs bodies to have the indentation. I'm curious as well if anyone has a more definitive response.

It’s a conundrum for sure. I don’t know what the wood screws would attach to since the floor rail doesn’t come into contact with that hole, unless a separate piece of “filler “ wood was used.

I'm guessing a body drain?

I have those same holes in my unrestored '30 Murray Town Sedan, both sides. Nothing in them. I suspect they may have been part of the manufacturing process, maybe a locator hole for a dowel in the press that formed that pillar.

On coupe and probably Tudor and pickup bodies. the sill at the bottom of the door opening is riveted to the cowl in that hole.

Building on MAG's observations, could Ford have supplied the cowls to Briggs & Murray.....everything from the cowl back being individual to the body builder ??

Wondering ??

A reasonable conclusion given what is laid out here. But I'm not going to lose a bunch of sleep over a couple of open holes in my A-pillar.

A good place for a rubber bumper.
