I've always "secretly" wanted a real old school hot rod, but do not have the heart to chop up a vintage Ford. If I ever have the money I'll be talking to the boys over at the Brookville Roadster store where everything is built new with no destruction of precious vintage Fords.

back in 1974 i was in high school one of the teachers had just finnished restoring what was his dads 1935 dodge. he had heart problems and had surgery needed to pay the bills one of his friends had been wanting the dodge for years. well he sold it to him with stipulation he cold buy it back within two years. well 3 months later the teacher saw his friend driving a hot rodded dodge needless to say they both ended in the hospital.

I am fairly new on here and have always liked my cars to go fast period but the older I get the more I appreciate things that have survived. I am currently working on a 30 tudo that I found after it had sat in a barn for about 25 years. Over time it had rust eat awa at the splash panels and running board and one rear fender. It still had all of it's orginal metal and had only had one paint job since 1930 (I know I sanded through them both.) It was not expensive and I am surprised no one bought it to make a rod because the body itself was still in good condition. When I look on ebay at the price of running cars and at the number of frames and running gear and fenders pulled off to make a hot rod it blows my mind. There is no way buying a running car to hot rod makes sense. It would be cheaper to buy a new body to go on the new frame you already bought. For me I think it is a matter of some people having more $ than sense but then again none of them asked me so I will just keep working on mine and building it like I want it.

Jim,
I agree with you 100%...., And I can't understand why it would set anyone off who has nothing to do with someone else's property .
But...I guess it takes all kind's.

It has something to do with preserving a beautiful piece of history! I can also understand not modernizing or tearing down historic buildings. Too bad the Twin Cities doesn't understand the value of historic buildings.

I guess it depends on what you think is restorable. my truck was given up for a rat rod. but I just couldn't let that happen. And now the guy I bought it from cant believe it he thought it wasn't restorable. (And no its not full of bondo I built all my own panels) 4 years and almost done. and I enjoyed every minute of it. I wanted one since I was 16 it only took me till I was 43 to get it.

Boyd Coddington did the same thing to a perfect 59 bel air with a 6 clyl....he made a hot rod out of it after paying 25k for it...for people whom have extra $ layin around y-not...on the recent barrett -jackson in scottsdale a gent bought a 69 camaro copo big block dog dish car...the car had the wheel wells repaired from drag racing and did not have the original engine...the bidding got up around 300,000 and the gent paid around 340k...32 roadsters are overpriced....it's a trendy car...not something ol henry would have ever thought up...gump
