Help fellow Barner for 53 Crestline SS Trim repair
Thought I would share my work for a fellow Barner and his 53 Crestline SS trim piece. I received it yesterday UPS and so last night I figured I would mess with it a bit and see just what was in front of me. After a little time on the bench I still have a lot of work on one dent left but made strides on it initially BUT the other dent just needs a little more picking, filing and sanding and its good to go. Some before and after shots!!!

That looks excellent! I imagine it'll polish out just fine.
I predict that your mailbox will be full of dented stainless trim if you're not careful. |

Thank you Tubman, yes a little more filing and about 5 grades of sanding with a couple of liquid products, THEN buffing and it will look just fine!!! Still some more work left on the first bigger one, its a tough one!!!

Re: Help fellow Barner for 53 Crestline SS Trim repair
A little more progress to show, I ran the dent #1 across my buffer to get a feel for where I am at BEFORE I start all the sanding steps.....I still have a little fine tuning to do BUT for all intents and purposes it is just about ready for final sand and buffing. Dent two I spent a little more time on and STILL have a bit of work an finegelling to do on it, much deeper and complex dent and crease!!!

Looks like no one is really interested so I will make this my last post. A little before and now ready for final sanding and polish on dent 1 and the further progress on big dent 2, still some work and fine tuning to do!!

You did a great job on that stainless trim. That's got to be a time-consuming job to do. Especially filing so not to remove too much material and end up putting a hole in it.

Sal, each time I fix something I forget how much time is spent trying to get it as flat as possible before filing and sanding!!! Also its amazing how many different tools, blocks, shapes and materials I have accumulated to do different pieces and fix different dents!!

I'm interested and appreciate the pictures and description. I just don't have anything to add to the conversation so I'm not posting responses. I'm much better at mechanical issues than I am at trim, bodywork, paint, etc. |
