Re: 36 passenger side mirror
I wonder if an AACA judge will notice the modification?

Re: 36 passenger side mirror
I just don't understand why an off-the-shelf hinge mirror wouldn't give the same results?

I have the accessory "swan" type of mirrors on my '39 conv,t, could not see de-diddely on the right side. Purchased 3.75" convex "fish-eye" mirror, stripped off the double sided tape, applied "Goop" clear glue on the mirror and stuck same to the wan mirror.. The vision on the right side is now 100% plus, and you have to look close to see the added mirror... I've done this type of a mirror modification to right had mirrors for several years.

Re: 36 passenger side mirror
Those 4" convex mirrors are great. They have enough convex to give a good field of vision, but not enough to distort the image as do the stick on mirrors I have seen.

Re: 36 passenger side mirror
I have never had a problem with the "fish-eye" convex mirrors, that is once I learned that if I can see daylight between an object and my fender, etc. I have plenty of side clearance..
I guess I should add that I have driven high profile RV's and/or trucks for the past thirty plus years, you learn to trust your mirrors, in lieu of looking over your shoulder while driving in heavy traffic and/or backing up.. I use to own a rather large company that had a fleet of large trucks, amongst other things I was the safety officer for the company.. From time to time I would take drivers out for road tests, I also gave the driving tests to new applicants. Any drive that looked over their shoulder when backing up, or changing lanes, I down rated. I do know that the CA DMV driving test requires that drivers look over their shoulder (s) prior to backing and/or lane changes.. During the few driving tests given to me by the DMV during the past 30 years, I always inform the examiner that I generally use the mirrors in lieu of turning my head, taking my eyes off of the road to look over my shoulder..

Re: 36 passenger side mirror
Mr Texas,
Don't let 'em put you down. My comments are....I would have used a slightly less obtrusive mirror head and a less severe radius on the arm. It took me more than one attempt to get it right but when it is right it's far superior to any after-market product |

Re: 36 passenger side mirror
guys, I just got a wide angle clip on mirror and put it on my stock one,(48)and moved them on the swivel to the right a little and I can see anything coming on my blind side. works good and it was cheap. I think 16 bucks.

Re: 36 passenger side mirror
There is a BIG problem with convex "wide angle" mirrors. They make objects appear further away than they actually are ! Surely you want to know what is REALLY going on behind you and not having a goldfish view ?

The unique woodie hinge pin puts the standard hinge pin mirror way too far forward. I bought and tried that route first. |
