Default '36 Running Board Chrome Trim ?

I have a nice 1936 Ford Cabriolet, but there are no chrome or stainless strips along the bottom edge of the running boards. I have seen them with and without this trim.

Which is correct? If the trim is required to be as original, where can it be purchased?

The stainless steel running board mouldings were standard equipment on certain '35 and '36 body types, but cabriolets were not one of them. As deuce lover points out, they were available as a dealer-installed extra-cost accessory for those body types not so equipped.

The ss Strips along the running board of the Cabriolet looks nice but is not correct for concourse judging. It is correct on the Deluxe Touring Sedans(2 dr or 4 dr) and Convertible Sedans--source= 1935-36 Ford Book available from the Early Ford V8 Club of America.

Yes, it DOES looks like a computer "photo touch up" of some type.

The repo running board stainless trim is very thin and dents very easily. I would think twice about using it.

The stainless running board trim was never listed as a dealer installed accessory, but was available as a spare part (48-16462). I guess that some dealers would have installed them on any 35/36 vehicle for a fee. Convertible sedans and deluxe touring sedans would have come from the factory with RB trim strips.

Hello Everyone, The above response is from the co-author of the book quoted in post #4 above. Don's an incredibly valuable resource to our hobby!

We've got the RB strips on our car, incorrectly. But IMHO the Cabrio looks sexy without the bling.

As for the rear fender, I just looked at a good photo of our car, and the only difference I see is that the Cabriolet is sitting down over the tire enough to give it a bit of a strange look. The contour looks right to me.

My 35 Tudor Deluxe Touring has them on, and I was told by several folks that they were indeed a factory installed item. They do have quite a few dings in them, as they are right at that height to get kicked and bumped easily.

Possibly more visual impact than the RB strips is from the fender skirts. Love 'em or Hate 'em? If you look closely this cabrio has 'em sometimes and doesn't other. I like our car both ways. Like it's got a tux on or jeans.

The picture of the car had fender skirts, and I wanted to see how it looked without the skirts, so did a little "photo-shop" touchup (I copied the front left wheel and pasted it to the rear wheel). Unfortunately, I did not save the original picture, but since it showed the running board so well, posted it.

The skirts that came with the car had a big hex head bolt to hold them in place. Some cars look great with skirts, but the skirts on this car did not do it justice, especially with the big ugly bolt, so I removed them permanently and they were sold on eBay.

I will say that you guys are very observing!

Now I see the reflection in the floor showing the fender skirt. My 4 door touring sedan doesn't have the strips on it. Is it a standard / deluxe equipment situation?

I have the strips on my 36 coupe and being the 3rd owner and knowing the other 2 they have been on the car since new, and the car was bought new in my town ( Victoria BC) . These strips are polished solid stainless , not thin chrome, with a track down ther center for the mounting screws. They also seem to be narrower than the strips on Jeff's phaeton.
