What is This Bracket for?
Got the 59A engine put in the parts shed today. I am curious what the tall bracket on the left head is for? Looks to be a factory made mount for something. Thanks Rod

Re: What is This Bracket for?
Confirm with someone else, but I beleive that to be the mounting bracket for a heavy duty oil bath air cleaner, optional Ford equpment for dusty conditions. The can mounted within the radius of the mount, with a horizontal duct from there to the carburetor air horn.

Re: What is This Bracket for?
That makes sense, I may even have the air cleaner for the bracket. It was mounted on a AA chassis that had been made into a haysweep. The top of it can be seen in this pic. I will have to see how it compares next week while out at the farm moving parts around before the snow hits. Rod

Re: What is This Bracket for?
Yup. That's what it is, an air filter bracket. I have one on my '35.

Re: What is This Bracket for?
Thanks, that air cleaner looks like the same as what I mentioned above. Will see if the two bolt together. Rod

Re: What is This Bracket for?
After I confirm the filter is correct for the bracket I will have this for sale. I plan on rumming 2 97's and no hood I have no use for it. Likely it will be Tuesday or Wednesday before I make it to the farm to take off the filter and look over the condition and make sure it is correct. PM me sometime this weem. Rod

Re: What is This Bracket for?
The front cover may have been changed if it is a 59A. It looks like a 3 bolt. It should be a 2 bolt if a 59A. Could it be an earlier motor? I know you like to know what you have.

Re: What is This Bracket for?
I brought the bracket and the other filter home from the farm today. It looks like there were atleast 2 styles of these filters. One that bolted to the bracket and one that was spotwelded to the bracket. The one that is spotwelded must be for a 21 stud as it has a different bolt pattern. Too bad the bottom is rusted out of it. Re: What is This Bracket for?
Up until last week I had not seen either style or simply didn't pay attention to oddities like this. When I see a flathead I am always more curious if it is a 21 stud and which carb and seldom give the aircleaner configuration a second look other than to try to see under it. Rod

Re: What is This Bracket for?
Don't toss it just because it's rusted out...check the diameter of it, bet you'll find something that could be used to repair it.

Re: What is This Bracket for?
Thanks, no intentions of tossing, someone might need one some day. I don't toss much. Just taking account of what I have as someone above said they wanted one. Rod
