Shipping
Need to have engine on a pallet shipped from NY state to ET on a LTL basis. Anyone recommend a shipping line. It will be business to business so loading and unloading not a problem.

Re: Shipping
I have used EngineShippers.Com many times, for engines, Columbia's, seats, etc.
Never a problem so far. |

Re: Shipping
At our shop we get engines from several sources such as FedEx, various motor freight companies, and drop shipping from friends with a pickup truck. The cost can be reduced if you construct a wooden cradle for the engine and firmly anchor it. The cradle can then be used to send the engine back after repair. Otherwise many shippers will not accept the load.

Re: Shipping
Well....maybe. Be aware that they will not insure the engine for more than scrap metal prices. I recently went through this using Fastenal. It caused me some great hesitation.
I ended up using them anyway. I justified it in my mind that since the engine would always be on a Fastenal truck and at a Fastenal facility, it would be pretty unlikely they could lose it altogether. And if it is crated correctly, they probably wouldn't damage it either. Their rates are really good and I shipped without issue.

Re: Shipping
I shipped an engine that I had rebuilt from MA to Iowa using Fastenal. I built the crate and as Heard said they don't insure the total value. Cost was about $160 and 5 days later it arrived at a nearby Fastenal for the buyer to pick up. Fastenal told me to leave the oil fill pipe on so a pallet could not be placed on top of it. I wrapped it with heavy plastic. Happy with the service.

Re: Shipping
It looks like Fastenal prices have taken a big jump up in the last month or so. A recent quote for a 75 pound transmission going about 1500 miles was over $250.

Re: Shipping
I shipped a complete Model A engine from Oregon to Ohio for about $200 on Fastenal, great service, arrived in about 5 days. Very professional, would use them again every time I ship something.

Re: Shipping
Look at the price of fuel. Since we live in California I suspect just getting an item out of California has raised the rates. Highest prices in the nation and we have to drive on third world roads.

Re: Shipping
i have used it several times, and i find things vary between stores because they are not really in the shipping business so the counter guy may not know whats up. i have shipped out no problem, guys on the other end have the store clerk baffled. used to be able to have the buyer pay on his end, but that varies by store too.
