32-36 aluminum head questions & water pump
I picked up what I thought was a pair of 33-36 v8 aluminum heads.
After closer look , one has no markings on head , 1932 -early 33 ? the other has 40-6050a with a 2 in circle under the number , and the Ford name. seems to be late 33-36 I looked around on the forum for info on 32 head ID and can't get a clear answer. Are these heads usable together on the same engine? Also got a rebuilt or new Allstate water pump with the heads. Can anyone tell if it's for these heads or is it later. Thanks for any help , I want to offer these up here , but I want to accurate on my info. Roy |

Re: 32-36 aluminum head questions & water pump
The heads will fit '33 to early '37 engines and can be used together. However, used aluminum heads that are not on an engine often have a crack. Check the conditions carefully. The revisions to aluminum heads do not exactly follow the model years, but roughly, the right side head without markings is correct for '33 and the left side head with the A suffix is correct for '35. The water pump will fit either head.

Re: 32-36 aluminum head questions & water pump
Thanks for the quick reply.
Exactly the info I needed. These came from a repair garage / black smith shop with lots of " saved" parts. I suspect the " bad" head from each engine was discarded and the usable heads saved? I'll do a light cleaning and give them a closer inspection. Roy |

Aluminum heads were initially without markings until the cast iron versions were released and then the part numbers were added to the aluminum heads. Ford script was added to the heads in August, 1934, so scripted heads are late '34 on up although functionally the same as the earlier heads for flat top pistons. A number following the letter suffix indicates that there was more than one supplier and the number designates which supplier made the heads. |
