Carburetor Fuel Level Gauge - Suggestions on making one please?

Our fuel level gauge has gone missing, and it appears they are out of stock, -so I guess I need to make one. Therefore I need a little inspiration.

If I were to use a regular carburetor drain, it appears I have around 3/16" of an area inside of the plug that could be drilled, ...then a small length of 3/16" O/D steel Brake line installed and JB Weld added to hold it in. It appears McMaster has 3/16" clear tubing. Before I go thru the steps of this, does anyone know of an easier way to make one of these??

I have a gauge from Dave's corner. It works well. As I recall, it is locked at the drain point of the carb, and requires the lower half of the carb to be removed from the car to remove it from the carb. Shortening the U shaped connection seen in the above photo might eliminate the requirement.

I have seen a diagram of a different construction which allows removal from the carb when the setup is on the car. I'll try to remember where I saw this, but Brent, I bet with your knowledge you can envision the connection of which I speak. The parts at the base were not glued but screwed together, maybe a ferule fitting...

Renner's Corner has fuel level gauges for various carburetors. This one for a Marvel. I like the Renner's one because it holds it shape, even with the engine running.

Brent here's the one I have your idea sounds good, the stiff wire keeps the tubing to shape-simple.

Why not solder or braze the steel line? I've seen JB weld eaten by gasoline.

Flux coated silver solder works wonders in this application.
