Default Ever see this intake?

I picked this up last night locally here in Sc. Has anyone ever heard of or seen one of these? Normally I wouldn't ask but I can't find anything here or on the web.. Odd? I have a Fenton 2/2 I was thinking of running but I like the spacing a little better on this one...

The bad thing is it was painted.. Gotta figure the best way to clean the paint off... Thanks..

Don't use chemical stripper on alum. Lightly media blast.

I have used glass beads on aluminum and it cleans up nicely.

I too have used glass beads, many times, and it DOES clean-up nicely, BUT.......the ORIGINAL finish is "history". DD

Will the glass take off the paint as well?
I've blasted a ton with sand and aluminum oxide but never had anything bead blasted...

The glass beads will take off the paint. Glass beads are relativley gentle. I have found that after several uses the beads do lose some of their gutting ability.

Strippers containing chlorinated solvents (eg methylene chloride, trichloroethane) in the presence of alcohols or water can react with and corrode aluminum.

And, it will turn the aluminum black. Hard to clean up.

Use aircraft stripper. Easy on alum. Won't change the finish. I had some valve covers with three coats of power coat. I had to soak the covers for 24 hrs. Came out fine.

Be careful with aircraft strippers as most are similar to conventional strippers with chlorinated solvents. They may be OK on hard-anodized smooth surfaces for limited periods but not on castings. Read the incompatibility section of this msds for one of Barr's aircraft paint remover products.

If it was polished under the paint and you planned on polishing it later, you can use aircraft stripper. Most are methylene chloride based and if washed thoughroughly with water then soap & water after most of the residue is stripped off, there should be no structural problems with the aluminum. Some aircraft strippers have acid mixed in there to allow epoxy and polyurethene paint removal. These would have to be neutralized during the wash process. The kind you buy at the hardware store is mostly methylene chloride. I've stripped quite a few airframes and have not had much problems with strippers around forgings & castings as long as you don't leave the stuff on there too long. Plastic and fiberglass are the ones you have to cover real well. It sometimes takes repeated coating & rinsing to get all the stuff off. Good sense prevails on these jobs. We have to reseal all joints after stripping an airframe. It's a messy job and not much fun.

Walnut shell and plastic media blast does a pretty good job but has a hard time with stubborn paints. You will likely need to take some progressively finer Scotch brite pads and polish to the sulface and maybe some 400 grit aluminum oxide paper on scratched areas anyway prior to final polishing with buffs & rouge.

Thanks for all the tips!!

Buddy at the racecar shop has a bead blaster...,we'll give it a try!!

No clues to the intake ? Anything to look for on the construction to help decide if it's a decent candidate to use on my 8 ba??

Thanks again!

Were there a lot of spin offs from "big name" manufactures?
