I have just received my dads 1929 Murray Town Sedan that has been sitting for 6-7 years. I am currently working on trying to get her to run again so I just wanted to say hello to you all as I have a feeling I will be using this site quite a bit as I try to get her fixed up.
Thanks for having me. |

Re: New member
Hi Davext and welcome. Please if you are not familiar with these cars, join a local club for their knowledge, les Andrews books, and post pics-we love pics. Also you may want to consider joining the Townsedan club. You can get lots of body style specific info with that group.

In addition to the bits of wisdom you've already received, try doing a search on this site for something like "start after sitting" or such. It'll bring up tons of useful information like this one: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...=start+sitting Mike V. Florida has a great write-up (book) in that link with good details. By the way, if you don't have a picture of your new ride - - then it doesn't exist! Joe |

Re: New member
Welcome Dave from across the creek. As mentioned, you have a couple of Model A clubs in the Vancouver area you could join and if you want to cross the creek, you have the Beaver Model A club in Clackamas.
Anyway, again welcome to the hobby. Great fun.

Re: New member
Welcome and you are very lucky to have the best car for cruising, comfort and class. The 29 Murray Town Sedan is my favorite for a classy car.
I would pull the plugs and put a little oil in each cylinder and spin it over. Then check for spark from the coil wire held 1/4" from a head nut. If no spark, then the points may need to be cleaned. Don't change a thing because nothing changed or got hurt from not running 7 years. The points may oxidize, and the cylinder loose some oil coating, but that usually about it. Too often people start swapping out carbs, distributors, coils, plugs, and a host of other parts, when it really isn't needed, and may add the the problems. |

Re: New member
Thanks everyone.
Couple of crappy pics. I'll get it outside and washed at some point. Pretty clean car overall, just needs a bit of detail all around and some engine work. |

Re: New member
Very good suggestions from Tom. And I think I would change the engine oil before starting it. Just to make sure, if there is crud in it, you would get at least some of it out before it messes up things.
