Re: My Banjo question?
Brendon, what governs the end play in the axles is the distance from the underside of the spider gear part on the axle where it fits into the carrier and the middle part of the spider gear crass.
I would think .010 would be OK but you want some on both sides. Lawrie |

Re: My Banjo question?
how much is too much... ? On the 46 axle in my A, I can see movement when I push on the wheel with my knees. This happens on both sides.

Re: My Banjo question?
Without the wheel bearing supporting the end of the axle there will be up-down movement ---do not worry about this movement
The V15 repair book lists these specs for axle movement-- Axle shaft endplay -- .003, tp .006" Backlash between axle gear and differential pinion -- .010" clearance between differential pinion gear and spyder shaft- .005- .008" I know that with new parts made by Ford that it is easy to have these specs, but with used parts you have to decide how much more you can be happy with |

Re: My Banjo question?
Went around a rotary/traffic circle/round-about (whatever they call them in your part of the world) this morning, left hand turn and hear the left rear brake drum drag.. a metal to metal sound. A little alarming! The hub nut is @ 220lbs...
Is this "normal"?.. is the taper on the axle/hub shot? Is the drum flexing? (46 axle, with 1935 16' wire wheels with the correct wheel spacers...) Last edited by white64; 09-20-2013 at 12:32 PM. |

Re: My Banjo question?
I was working on a Model A rear, the axle taper is different then on a V8. I had to cut an 1/8 inch off the inside lip of the backing plate, and 1/8 inch off the drum, also grind down the shoes. I don't know what would cause your trouble
