Installing new tie rod ends to ball socket
Need a little help. I'm trying to install a new tie rod and ends on my 34 Ford and I'm having trouble getting the ends to slip over the ball on each side. Is their a special tool needed to compress the spring in the tie rod end enough in order to slip the two parts together? I've tried using a C clamp, but the tie rod end keeps rotating off the ball.
Thanks, Tom |

Re: Installing new tie rod ends to ball socket
I did this just yesterday, I used the press, but a vice could be used. Or just find something V shaped to hold the rod end and give the ball a tap.
It might be possible to use something to press the seat and spring in (something U shaped) while you slip the ball in but it really isn't that hard. Tappy tap tap with a hammer. Mart. |

Just the spring, heavy T shaped cup and the threaded cap. Should not have a problem. I understand the new springs are not as good as originals may want to think of using the original springs.

I just went through this. Correct, the new springs are too long and the new cups are too thick. This adds up to a problem getting the new stud in. For the springs, put them in a vice and compress them to coil bind. Crank down even harder. It will shorten them enough to work. If you can, compare the OE spring and cup to the replacement ones. You'll see the difference. |

Maybe he's working on it and hasn't put the front fenders on it yet.

I have never dealt with Red's Headers, but thought they had a good reputation. The fact that their website lists "Johnson Style" lifters and "Kube" got some bad ones gives me pause.
