Default Electric lockout on 49 OD

What is the procedure for bypassing the electric lockout? Do I hook the governor directly to the solenoid?

i believe the governor wire will connect directly to the OD relay on the firewall.....

The term lock out on a Borg Warner electric overdrive set up is performed manually in two ways. One is to put the transmission in reverse gear and the other is to pull the lock out cable.

The relay on the firewall runs the whole system by engaging electrical current to it. The governor is a flyweight operated switch that turns the system on as soon as the vehicle gets up to on speed which is around 23 MPH. If it has a lock out switch to the rear of the lockout rail then that switch will lock out electrical function any time that the rail is in the locked out position. The other two items are for engaging and disengaging the overdrive for normal operation (operating solenoid) or for kick down passing gear (kick down switch).

Later transmission have no lock out switch. To bypass one that has it, just disconnect the two wires and reconnect then together in some way that they will be insulated from possible shorting. This will take the electrical lock out function out of the circuit. You can also just run a new wire but make certain that it is the correct gauge of wire.

Connect the governor wire to the kickdown switch. As stated above you just eliminate the reverse lockout switch. This is what was recommended by Ford when they failed. Don't worry about the switch wires as they're both dead at that point.
