Default Help again - need a bendix in Las Vegas

I can't find a good one in Kingman. Still traveling in the 34 roadster. The current bendix is letting the gear rub the flywheel intermittently. It's just noise, but very annoying. Anyone have any thoughts? Bob Sweet has been great help, but doesnt have a bendix...

Thanks in advance, Tim 530-320-3604

Tim, if it wasn't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all . If no one else chimes in with a bendix drive for you, I could probably remove one from a spare starter and send it to you.

Check a starter/generator shop. Even try NAPA and CarQuest. The Ford bendix's were used on other apps and should be available.

Tim,
If you can't find one closer, I can pop over to Sac Vintage tomorrow and get/ship one.

Tim
Is it the spring that's broken?
Larry seemed to think it was something else?

Is the spiral that the gear rides on gummed up or dirty? The gear is retracted only by the flywheel gear spinning the Bendix gear on the spiral (threads) as the engine fires. If the gear can't spin freely, it cannot retract all the way and may drag.

It's not a broken spring. It's the little tiny stud/spring thing in the inside that holds the bendix gear in the retracted position. It's worn and not doing the job.

They have that part in Spokane. The local Napa did a search for me.

A shop in Vegas had some better bendix parts. I'm Not yet convinced it's fixed, but it's better for now. 600 miles to home. Leaving here early am. When it's not 104 outside.
