First outing
I took my ‘39 out today for the first ride of ‘23. Over the winter I converted it to a Rochester 2gc from the Ford 8RT. I think the ‘51 Merc flathead in the old beast runs a lot better. It will pull cleanly from 25 mph in third and the carb is quiet. The old carb sounded like it was sucking through a straw. It was well worth the effort and as far as the expense, it kept me entertained inside and warm.

Re: First outing
Great work! Looks good...and a 2G series runs so nice doesn't it? My Merc runs nicely with its 2G on a 1CM external choke thermostat manifold.
To those who want to see the pics: click on miniceptors name and go to his profile page. On the rh side are the albums. click on all albums and you'll find the 2GC. Terry

Re: First outing
Thanks Terry. I think I used the same manifold. Got the 2gc model with the choke on the carb, manifold had the heat tube running through it. Worked out nice with Charlie’s distributor.

Re: First outing
Any reason for going electric? I original thought about manual since I have the cable from the old carb.

Re: First outing
I don’t know if it was an aberration but I was surprised how quickly the engine started, hardly more than one revolution.
