Re: Oil weight
I personally don't use Walmart oil in any of my cars, but it probably isn't too bad of stuff,,,, a mechanic told me years ago it is recycled oil done at the Mobil Refineries. They clean it up and re-add the same detergents that Mobil uses, and that is good motor oil (although I don't use Mobil eye-ther)

Re: Oil weight
Well, you've got a pretty good cross section of opinion on what's the best oil in your model A.
The answer is all of them! or as I've heard said "Whatever is on sale down at Walmarts, TSC, Menards, Etc. I know that model As will run a long time with very little maintenance, Just not well. I tell the story of buying a long stored engine, complete for $75 and getting it home and taking the pan off it and finding prodigious amounts of sludge. The oil pump screen was about 80% blocked. I then took the center main cap off, the bearing came out in pieces. I wonder why? It's a one word answer, Sludge! The blocked oil pump was't allowing enough oil through to properly lube the bearings. Terry |

Re: Oil weight
If you care about molecular consistency and chaining of additives, and what additives found in engine oil is best for a model a engine this could spiral into the abyss of oil threads.
!5-40 diesel grade engine oil.delo,rotella,you name it.just change it...often |

Re: Oil weight
I was just at the Walmart auto center tonite and I asked the manager 'who' makes Wal-Mart oil and he told me that it is refined at the Warren Oil Co. refineries.
I had never heard of them so I did a search and found this. If the US military thinks it is good enough it should be for a Model A Ford! They also make AutoZone's brand of motor oils. Good stuff and should fit the bill. Cheap too. Check it out........... http://www.warrenoil.com/ |
