Default Water Pump And Fan

I decided to mount a water pump that had a tag that said rebuilt but I don't remember where I got it . I tried mounting a four blade fan it wasn't happening could not tighten down far enough to line up cotter pin hole . I ordered a two blade aluminum fan from Bert's and mounted it today . It went on Better but I could only see one side of the cotter pin hole . Pulled the fan back off and to check the drilled hole in water pump shaft . It was off center a little so I drilled it out and put the two blade back on and can just get a cotter pin threw . I'm thinking of pulling the pump and using stud bolts to make removal easier in the future there's not much room once the radiators in place .

cardboard liner on the inside of the radiator to protect your knuckles is easy to forget to do with all the activity at the front of the engine.

You might try and grind a skim cur off the back of the nut so that the hone in the shaft protrudes more into the nut allowing for the proper cotter pin to be used.

Mitch is correct if you don't use the sealer it will leak.

I have the stud bolts already but installed the pump on the old studs not wanting to open another can of worms like breaking the studs . I have a stud tool maybe some heat and PB Blaster first ? one of the studs was a little long and needed an extra washer . What's better stud tool or double nutting ?

I tried to remove my studs using the stud tool but they didn't want to budge and I was afraid of breaking one. Is heat the best solution? I ended up just putting the pump back on the studs coz I was pushed for time (preparing for a trip). I regret that I didn't replace them.

a crap shoot. so be prepared for things to go south. drilling out the broke stud means pulling the radiator.
try several days of some heat and kroil, then try. Stay away from red heat, just smoking hot. lightly tap the stud before kroil.

No radiator and no body in the way so I'm going to give it a try .

Kroil has never failed me. Let it soak for a day or two.

Do the studs really help that much? Don't you still have to take the radiator rods loose and tilt the radiator forward to get the water pump off, even with the fake studs? I also chickened out, afraid to try and remove the old studs. I put it back with the old studs in place, and still have the fake studs on my shelf.

The studs on mine were easy to remove with a stud remover. No heat required in my case.

Thank you Mitch...
I literally just walked into the house after installing a rebuilt water pump with the fake studs. I read Mitch's post. It never occurred to me that one of the stud holes would leak. So, I drained out the water, pulled the fake stud, put sealer on it, and put it back in. I will refill the radiator tomorrow morning.

I was thinking of just using the same bolts that are used on the timing front cover. Not original, but will look the same as all the other bolts on the engine. Not going for points, just making it look like it belongs.

Two studs were easy to remove and two took six heat cycles to get them to wiggle a little more PB Blaster and let them set overnight . Still tight more PB Blaster and a little more heat let them set all day and both came out with a fight . I had to resort to a pipe wrench there wasn't enough threads on the studs to double nut . Maybe repro studs ?
