LED tail lights
I know this has many posts, but I have yet to find one that is consistant.
1939 Ford Deluxe 6 v possitive ground I installed turn sigmals some time ago. I replaced my front parking lights bulbs, with amber bulbs and both front and back lights worked as they should. I wanted brighter lights in rear - Turn, stop and lights at night. I bought 6 volt LED and they are much brighter. Please be specific on correct flasher. Stop lights work night driving head lights and tail work Turn signals do not work. I had though that my front parking light had enough of draw to engage flasher......I was wrong. What do I need to do to get my turn signals working again. |

Re: LED tail lights
Add resistance to the system OR change the flasher to an electronic unit.

Re: LED tail lights
I have a similar issue, but 12V neg ground...and I installed an electronic flasher unit designed for LED lights. It flashes with the key on in the run position, but not with the engine running.
Someone suggested that my old Ford was rejecting the LED's... Neal |

Re: LED tail lights
I had that same problem. Went back to the old style flasher and it works just fine. Since then I've made some changes in the wiring schematic that may have solved the problem, but will have to wait a while till I can test it out.

Re: LED tail lights
J thanks I called around no place including where I bought had or knew - best suggestion was add bulbs inline under car to create resistance

Re: LED tail lights
I bought an electronic flasher from Napa years ago to use while towing a trailer.
It could handle one bulb or six, made no difference. Worked, but very loud. I kept it in the boat to use for towing only. Works good Lasts long time Bruce

Re: LED tail lights
J - thank very much for your time and your help. I guess a relay is really only option to get the turn signals working.
I'm probably going to go with: https://www.ronfrancis.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LR%2D26 I'll put one on each stop light line and mount to frame near each light. I am amazed at the difference in brightness with these new volt 6 LEDs. |

Re: LED tail lights
Grrr - I installed the resistors (2 for $40) made little difference - anyone know of a no load pos ground 6 volt flasher?
I even tried doubling up the resistors to one turn signal. |

Re: LED tail lights
What is the bulb wattage? How many ohms per resistor? And did you install the resistors in series or parallel with the bulb?

Re: LED tail lights
The front 6 volt bulbs say 55 & 11a not sure what that means but they are the parking lights for 39 Deluxe.
All I did was pulled the bullet connector apart to led tail lights under car and spliced in the resistor - pic and details for resistor above purchased from Francis wiring and they are made for 6 volt led Thanks in advance for any help |

Re: LED tail lights
Call rodworz - 1-877-763-9679 - they will have the answers ... just got a nice demo/explanation at their booth at the Ricky Mountain NSRA Nats here in Pueblo, CO. They have the correct flasher to correct your problem.

Re: LED tail lights
Thx Tom I'll give them a call.
These leds tail lights are super bright and much safer than stock. |

Re: LED tail lights
If you fit the correct resistor in parallel (not in series or in line) with each LED lamp you use, weather it be two or four Led lamps then you can use any normal type of 6 volt flasher unit. The resistor simulates the load of a normal filament type bulb allowing the standard type flasher unit to work with LED lamps. Regards, Kevin.

Re: LED tail lights
Thanks - How do you wire the resistor in parallel ? I only have one wire going to stop light
I wonder why when I called Francis wiring they never mentioned that. |

Re: LED tail lights
Connect one end of the resistor to the wire and the other end to ground. That puts it parallel with the light which is also connected to the one wire and to ground. Make sure you have good grounds!

Re: LED tail lights
adileo, What !! I thought we were talking about LED turn signals, or indicators and NOT STOPLIGHTS. Resistors are required on LED turn signals connected in parallel to the LED to enable a normal 6 volt flasher unit to operate them. Read my earlier post #21 please. Resistors not required on 6volt LED stoplights or taillights on a 6volt car. Regards, Kevin.

Ya but bulb under bouncing car would not last very long - my humble opinion resistor was right fix

Re: LED tail lights
You tape the bulb to the wirees and it will not be bouncing around.
