Default coil polarity

I have a friend who owns a 52 Ford F-1. I noticed that the coil was wired such that the wire from the harness was connected to the plus side and the wire going to the points was the minus side. I thought that with the positive ground system, the + side of the coil should connect to the wire going to the distributor.
Is this right?

Like Bruce stated , coil needs to match battery polarity.

Another issue is that once a coil has been ran in a particular0 polarity there is a build up of resisdual magnetism that stays in that coil making it not good to use with another polarity....

Even though it will run when hooked either way, I never trust the coil markings. This tool will help get it right. I use it on everything. Just a thought.

It also depends if he has changed to negative ground, either 6v or 12v.

Thanks for the responses. There were a number of things not right on this truck, this was just one of them.
