Default front axle where to buy

I find myself needing a better front axle, someone attempted welding the wishbone and spring perches to my axle , but all I see are hotrod dropped axle 's for sale. is there such thing as a new replacement stock axle ? where can I buy one, I have had bad luck buying used axles, most sellers swear their axle is usable but apparently some people don't know what is usable and not usable .

Depending on your location this may work. In the latest issue of The Restorer, which came in yesterday's mail, there is an ad for a complete AA front axle including brake parts for $350. It is in Tyler, Texas. Phone number 903 630 0072. I don't know if the AA axle will work in a car or pickup.

Okie Joes https://www.joesspeedshop.com/contact in Oklahoma restore and sell original Model A axles. I have bought 3 stock axles from him. Although he is in the hot rod business, he does sell refurbished stock axles. He has hundreds in stock and when you order one, it will be thoroughly checked over for any defect, it is aligned and bushed. He has been doing this for years and is a great guy to deal with. Give Joe a call.

Sounds like the way to go. A swap meet axle will be a crap shoot and with the work involved in changing one it makes sense to spend some $ and get one you won't have to worry about.

This true - but where do you take your pleasure?

In April I bought an axle from Craigslist for $50. The tear down and investigation has been, er, interesting. But surprisingly, the axle is in pretty good original shape. As in "straight" and control arms not bent and wishbone ball nearly all there. And with some interesting CAST IRON brake drums (not Ford) which are seemingly a "period" addition.

I would use these if it weren't for Mel Gross product.

The seller for a while planned to use this on his Model A bodied hot rod but at each consideration he "upgrades" to improve his final product. The new front axle for him is off of Speedway's shelf as is his boxed frame.

Rebuilding an axle is not for the easily mechanically daunted. But nothing is impossible to disassemble and the front axle has been reproduced in all the component parts that matter.

I didn't know Joe Casto rebuilt stock axles, I will give him a call ,I always considered his axles to be dropped for hotrods. His place is north of me by about 100 miles, thanks for the info.
