Fair price for EAB heads.
Still cleaning up for the move. Found a pair of real nice EAB heads. I know some guys like to run these instead of aluminum. What is a fair price for a nice clean set?
Thanks. Tim |

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
Should be worth a 100 bucks, unfortunately, shipping would be$$$$$ If you are close by just drop them off.

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
I found a set of 8BA heads at Hershey that had been blasted, magnufluxed, resurfaced and ready for paint for $100. I figured it would cost nearly that to have my old heads made ready with the possibiity of a crack in one or both.

I've seen scroungy ones a swap meets for $25. I told the vendors to clean 'em up and ask $50-$75

They come and go in popularity. You may want to list them on the HAMB but I would say 50-100 bucks is about right.

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
Tim,
Price could depend greatly on whether or not they've been resurfaced (and how much was taken off).

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
You can determine how much material has been removed by measuring across the recess in the head... I think that the original width is the same as the cylinder bore, 3 3/16". This has been my experience...

No, the dome of the EAB head is much smaller than the bore diameter. They are not like other Ford heads in that regard.

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
I'd like to tack this on since it's subject comes closest to my question. While the EAB head keeps boiling to the top choice for stock or slightly modified engines, I wonder if the Mercury EAC heads have the same advantages?

Here is a thread on the HAMB discussing the EAB vs the EAC.

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
I think the EAC is the same as the 8RT heads. However, I don't trust charts back a few years ago when I was writing my book I measures heads as large as 115cc's. I had a list, but it got lost in the move with most of everything else.

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
Would it make any sense to know the "stock" dimension from a head bolt boss to the finished surface? I was thinking of a simple tool, like a cut off bolt, that could be used to check a head for evidence of modifications. If a small flat plate was used on the finished surface, milling as little as .010 could be observed. Comments?

Re: Fair price for EAB heads.
Easy to judge how much they've been cut by looking on the CC side at the thermostat boss. There is a ledge on an uncut head, by about 30 - 40 thou the cutter is into the housing.
