Extinct Model A
I was wondering if there is a production model of a US made Model A that does not exist today?
I know there were a lot of custom made units especially using commercial cowls but are we missing a representation of any body styles that rolled off a Ford assembly line?

Probably the Travelers Wagon. Only recreations are known to exist.

Re: Extinct Model A
There are very few actual slant town car deliveries. I know of several originals (10-12, maybe??) but there’s several that are “tributes”, clones, knock-offs, counterfeit ….whatever one wishes to attribute to them.

Re: Extinct Model A
I said maybe 10-12 originals, hip shoot! I’ve actually heard 8; I know of 5 personally.
I yield but I thought there were more than one 30 town car deliveries?. Tim Kelly had one(?) I saw one in Atlanta 35 years ago. May not have know enough at that time in discern a clone?? There is a original slant currently being restored but the owner is quite private Ronn…hope your friend is a lottery winner. Re: Extinct Model A
This is BS territory so I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this but I have been told 3 Model As were fitted with the new V8 engine for test purposes, then dismantled. I know, I know, they were not a production model but.......

Money will flush out a lot of stuff! Every thing has a price except my dog……my wife doesn’t read FB! Clem..I’ve only seen one Stand drive and one chassis. Not sure the full van was original production but look good enuff to have been just a redo of original. |

Clem,
Roger Kaufman's Stand Drive Delivery was at the Maffi show several years ago. Ol' Blue Oval, 1931 Straight Windshield Blind Back Sedan, with only 711 being made, half the Town Car & Town Car Delivery production. 'still just a Ford'. |

Re: Extinct Model A
Standrives;
Here's one that's been on ebay forever. https://www.ebay.com/itm/12250204120...cAAOSwn-tZHQVa Another one just popped up on Facebook last week in similar condition. The Elliot Museum in Stuart, Fl has one on display. Like Jim said, Roger's was on display at Gilmore a few Model A Day's ago. Towncar Deliveries; There is only one known '30 TCD which was displayed at Model A Day a few years back. As for '31 S/W TCD's there's a handful of originals plus a few clones/tributes/recreations. Towncars; There's the swiss cheese '30 body that has been for sale for multiple years without a buyer. There's a well known '30 TC that was restored by the late Bob Carini that exists today. I believe there was at least one other known '30 TC floating around.

Later Model AA's that were factory fitted with Lincoln style wire wheels, used for the funeral trade. With this one, I know of 2. Both in about the same shape.

Re: Extinct Model A
The late Wendell Townsend also restored a 1930 Town Car back in the 1970’s. I’m not sure where it wound up, but it was not the same one that Bob Cabrini had. Wendell was from the Atlanta area at time.

Dick,
Both 1930's where part of the Tim Kelly collection. Wendel's car in now in a private collection elsewhere and the Kelly family still owns the remaining '30. |

The slant 3 window Coupe does exist. It was on display at the MAFCA Queen Mary national meet in 1976. I believe that it is still here in SoCal.

I agree, those Town Cars are very scarce. Another one that is hard to come by is the Fridgadare pickups. But there were more of them.

Yup. 1931 only - less than a dozen built and no known survivors. Equipped with everything the intrepid explorer needed - folding bed, storage chest, overhead water tank (fill spout on roof), folding wash pan, and screens with curtains in the rear. It also had locking doors with roll-up windows in the front ones. |

Re: Extinct Model A
There exists a single, very grainy photo of a slant windshield DeLuxe Pickup. Like the Locke Ness Monster, there have been sightings......
Looking at random blue prints at the Ford Achieves, I found a print for a wiring harness to install Town Car Delivery side lamps on a DeLuxe Pickup. Amazing hobby that keeps on giving.... |

Re: Extinct Model A
When I was daydreaming of cloning a 3 window….
It was noted the rear clip is far different than Model A. More like a 32 which could be since it’s a slant and late in A production |

That would be nice! I have 30 years of backlog if I get it all done!! It’s been that way for 20 years. I used to do full resto but have reduced size of projects. And it had been part time until 18 mos ago And I’m 74! Old legs and back just won’t work like the did at 40!! If I live and take nothing new….I’ll be 103 when caught up!! Wheeew |

Re: Extinct Model A
There is/was a 1931 slant windshield in the Wisconsin Automotive Museum in Hartford, Wisconsin. Sign says that it was one of six built for General Electric. I have two grainy photos of it that I took in 2004.
Looking at their website, there is a photo in the Gallery that shows the front of the slant windshield Deluxe Pickup. (https://wisconsinautomuseum.com/showroom-gallery/) By the way, I should note that this museum is located in the building where Kissel automobiles were manufactured. It is located about 30 miles north of Milwaukee. It is a jewel of a car museum. Last edited by dean from bozeman; 01-09-2022 at 10:10 AM. |

I've seen an article on the web about the DeLuxe Pickup - of course I can't find it now. Anyway, it had a concept drawing - don't remember whether it was "official" Ford. IIRC, the truck in the drawing had a slant windshield top sorta like the 3-window coupe pictured in post #32 above. It had TCD side lamps on the quarter panels behind the doors. |

other then the "landau" lights........ looks good.
Personally think it looks like an early 32 and sure Ford was on the quest of designing for the following yr. |

Re: Extinct Model A
Thanks so much for the great contributions to this thread. I'm like a kid in a candy store or with the "new" Sears Christmas catalog (remember those?) when I see all these different Model A styles. I want them all.
I think we could start a new thread on the Deluxe Pickup. The one in the pictures does not look like the one in the drawing. Was the truck in the drawing ever built?
