Does anyone make amber cowl lamp lenses? If not, has anyone painted the clear lenses amber? Thanks!

I don't recall anyone making an amber lens. There is translucent red paint for tail lamps and perhaps a comparable amber/yellow paint exists for your purpose.

How about using a amber bulb?
Here is a bulb I used years ago in a '32 cowl light.I went to Pep Boys and they had the plastic socket and these bulbs. The plastic socket fit snuggly in the orig bulb socket. The plastic sockt has to terminals and I soldered wires to them. One is the ground .It worked perfectly. On a 33-34 the orig bulb socket clips on the reflector. You will see that when you open up the cowl light. Now this was 12V Last edited by deuce lover; 03-13-2024 at 02:54 AM. |

I believe you can paint the bulb as there was special paint at one time.
6V amber LED here on Ebay but dual contact. https://www.ebay.com/itm/153457030390 |

I think translucent stained glass paint is the ticket.

Re: 1933 Amber cowl lamp lens
IF you SO desire, you can send me one of your original lenses, I have a good friend here in town that can take a mold of your lens and recast you some in any color plastic you want. He can do amazing work. This is a Cadillac horn button he duplicated, from what I understand they are like hens teeth. Quite a long process to do and not that yours will be that difficult BUT wanted you to see what he can do!!!!

No need for color. The original lamps are EXTREMELY BRIGHT! for directionals use; a jaw-dropper when one views them for the first time! Thank You -
