A lot of people install O/D and don't realize this. Maybe their axle seals leak enough to not have an issue. Mine started leaking soon after installation of my Mitchell.

Could you just add a vent where the plug is to grease the rear shaft connector on the Mitchell? You wouldn't need to drill/tap anything then.

Mine has a 1/8 barbed fitting in the driver side tube with a couple inches of tubing. Seems to work great for the last few years and I will say I noticed less leaking around the tube

That sounds like a really good idea. You could drill and tap the removable plug and install the vent in the plug.

Could not hurt to try, but that region is close to the lube being thrown off by the ring gear. Might end up with a significant leak, but replacing the plug would restore to original.

That is why I located mine on the right hand axle housing....

Curious why you located the vent on the side of the housing rather than the top? Don't recall ever seeing one anywhere but on the top on any vehicle.

The over axle spring mounting location was the consideration, probably would have clearance, but surely would out the side.
