Got Paint?!
Posted previously on the cheapo frame rotisserie I made and I finally got some paint on the frame today. The rotisserie has really made the job quite easy ....
I am using some stuff called KBS Coatings and they have frame paint and engine paint in all kinds if colors you put on with a brush that looks sprayed. It needs something of a profile (roughed surface) to adhere to. Thought I would pass this info to fellow Barners who do not spray paint at home like me .... A good brush and thin coats is all it takes .... |

Re: Got Paint?!
Looks good, someone else told me they thought KBS worked better than Por-15.

Re: Got Paint?!
I used about 1/3 of a qt - I would safely say you can get two frames out of of qt.

Re: Got Paint?!
I have used the KBS engine paint on my '40 and really liked it. It self levels so there are no brush strokes, which is nice if you are painting the engine while still in the car. The finish is very glossy and looks great, but I would think that it is too glossy for a proper restoration.

Re: Got Paint?!
Well, in Tom's case, that is obviously not a restoration!

True, and probably the case for most of us.

Re: Got Paint?!
That looks nice Tom. And just to add,,,,,,that nobody has lived until they have spray painted a frame with an Xmember. Nooks and crannies. Mark.

Re: Got Paint?!
Ha ha - I actually cheated - the interior of the frame and all those nooks and crannies are done with Rust-Oleum! You have to create a profile for the KBS to stick and it is near impossible to do that for those interior spaces ... I will be top coating the Rust-Oleum with spray bomb for a nice finish .... there's more than one way to skin a cat!

Re: Got Paint?!
Frame is done being painted ... not perfect but it is a highly modified non-Fordbarn friendly original frame for a hotrod which will be driven. I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this project .... started painting fuel and brake lines, pedal setup, and other misc pieces to start the final assembly ....

On metal that is not in a marine environment and that has a profile (rough surface), directly applying 2-3 thin coats works best. |

Re: Got Paint?!
Thanks guys - I love my flatheads, my old Fords, and have the greatest respect for you guys that so meticulously do restorations. It's just not me. I also know that not everyone on this forum is a restorer in the purest sense of the word so I am putting this info/idea/product out there for those who might be interested.

Re: Got Paint?!
Looooks like deuce rails... so what goes on top? maybe I missed that.
I think.... some "restorers" don't even go to the level you are now. But some just amaze the heck out of me with their attention to detail and completeness. |
