Default 1929 CCPU Cowl Post Inner Brace

Do any of the experts out there know if anyone is making, or know where to look for the 1928-29 Ford Model A CCPU cowl post inner braces? I'm trying to bolt my cowl post through the sub-rail to the frame, but my drivers side inner brace is rusted completely away. The only inner brace I can find is for "open car".

You need to post a picture of the brace you are referring to, even if it is in bad condition. It is hard to determine what brace you are referring to without a picture. 28/29 passenger cars and open & closed cab pickups all use the same cowl - they are interchangeable.

1928-1929 pickup cowl is very different then the 1928-1929 coupe and Tudor cowl, and that inner brace is different as well, and neither are the same as the open car ones. Send me an email and we will see if we have any . Send to [email protected]

Steve, The cowl for 1928-1929 are the same for all A's and AA's. The hinge pillar (also called the coupe pillar by Ford) are different for various body types. I am sure that you are referencing the hinge pillar?

I think that the part being referenced by AF Texan is A-35032/33 (front side sills). These parts are the same on all 1928-1929 A's and AA's. Maybe he will post pictures so guessing is not needed.

Neil,
I wrote Steve an email stating about just what you wrote above. I mentioned the A pillar is what is different between closed cars, open cars, and pickup/trucks. I suspect he is think about the A pillar. I am not exactly sure what A F Texan's brace question is about and that is why I mentioned that he post a pictures of the brace he is questioning.

Hinge pillar is what I was referring to. I assumed that he needed the brace in the lower part of the hinge pillar that is unique to the pickup/aa . I might be wrong. When this is clarified, then we will all know what he needs.

I have a picture of what the original poster is referring to after going through a lot of clarification responses. If this is not what he is referring to, I am out of ideas.

That is the exact thing I was referring to. Sorry I wasn't able to post a picture, but that is it. I called Bert's this morning and they are looking for the drivers side I need.

AF Texan,
If Steve at Bert's can't find a bracket, I think I might have an extra one on a cut off lower A pillar.

If Steve can't get his hands on one and yours is in good shape, should be able to work something out with you.

I have a pair of CCPU cowl posts that have been cut off just above the gas tank. Those pieces seem to be in good shape. If all else fails send me a PM. Rod

PatrickGrant,
I have welded up worse rusted out areas than what your A pillar pictures show. You need to sandblast the area well so it is clean and then use a piece of copper to back up the welding, clamp the copper to the bottom of the protruding rusted out area and weld up the holes and then use a carbide burr cutter in a die grinder to dress the weld down to the way it was originally. I usually finish the dressing down with a 1" or 2" right angled sander from Harbor Freight to make the welds look nice. It takes a little work, but it isn't all that hard to do.

I fabricated one for my pickup years ago, wasn't that difficult,I guess if you can buy a decent one that would be the way to go.
