Default Brake Light Switch Repair

I thought the crew might enjoy this.

https://oldcarroadtrip.wordpress.com...ng-but-shorts/

Basically, one of my shorts was in the brake light. I took it apart and fixed the problem. I recorded a little video for the blog. I'm hoping that this is the LAST of the shorts. I still haven't gotten up the courage to start the car up and take it for a drive. I want to check the electric system "one more time" before doing so. I am also now seriously considering installing two fuses -- one for the lights and one for the starter.

You're gonna need a BIG fuse for the starter

You may also consider putting in a fuse for the horn (has been suggested by Bill W) while you're at it.

a pretty simple mechanism to botch up via reproduction, but somebody found a way.

don't some of the '29s qualify for 30-31 design of stoplight switch, which several members state is being reproducing by A & L with quality.

Yeah, I knew what he meant, it was just the way he worded it.

Yes,...Late 1929...sometime in September or October...Not sure when the attachment holes on the center cross member showed up.

OK...It was in July 1929 when the two small holes started to appear on the center cross members for a new switch...However it was in October when the new switch made its appearance (MARC/MAFCA Restoration Guidelines and Judgine Standards).

Thanks for the video, I always like to know how something works, and what's inside of it.

If only we had these computers/videos fifty years ago...those poor, poor puppies. (Just kidding)

Seth, Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I need to find out how to do that and post it. I had a similar problem with my original switch on my 29 roadster. They factory bake-o-lite insulation had cracked causing the light to not go off when the brake pedal was released. I simply removed to cracked part and cut a small sliver of wood to fit snug in between the upright ends, drilled two hole for the mounting screws and it worked like a charm. I didn't want to use one of the replacement switches as most of the descriptions read "FAIR replacement". I sand blasted and repainted the switch and it now works great. Plus you get the satisfaction of keeping the original on the car. Thanks again for sharing. Jim
