1929 Business coupe
Has anyone ordered a top for the 1929 Business coupe from La Baron Bonney? If so does it come with the oval window hole precut. I have no old top to use as a pattern and want to get it right.

Re: 1929 Business coupe
Why not call L-B and ask them?
BTW, I am collecting photos of 29 54-A's. I would like to have a shot of yours if you could email it to me. |

PO51,
Perhaps you should call LeBarron Bonney. |

In po51's defense, he posted his question on a Fiday night after L-B is most likley sclosed and if someone did know the answer he would have it faster than waiting until they open. Their web site does not say if they are open on the weekends or not.

Re: 1929 Business coupe
If you go to a recent thread, "A Neat Photo of a Rare A" that's been running, it has a perfect side view of an original business coupe. If you can find no better information to help you, use a copy machine and have this picture blown up to a scale you can measure from. This is done by taking a known dimension, such as the width of the door, and use it for a guide for layout.
Or ask someone who has this model to do some measuring for you. |

Re: 1929 Business coupe
All great ideas thanks. The answer is LB does not cut the holes. As I have no old top to use as a pattern I dont want to order a new top and then screw it up by not getting the oval windows in the right place. The outside pics are nice but dont really show you how the windows are in relation to the metal brackets, Pluck had a great suggestion that I will follow up on, but any other info would be great!

These might help some. If you need measurements or other info, I'm happy to share what I can.

Re: 1929 Business coupe
700RPM, yes it does, however if you look at the pictures from the 3-7-11 postings about BC's it appears that the oval windows are closer to the curved brackets then yours, if I can figure how to access ford archives I'm hoping they will have the orig. measurments. It would be nice to find an orig. car with an orig. top, but thats not going to happen!

Re: 1929 Business coupe
Is there any way to tell the difference between a Sport Coupe and a Business Coupe? Mine did not have any of the top material when I bought it. There is no evidence of it ever having the Landau bars, but I've just always called it a Sport Coupe. It might just be a Business Coupe?
Thanks, Kevin |

Re: 1929 Business coupe
Well the pictures are interesting! Looks like you have the special brackets of a Business Coupe and the center top bow of a Sport Coupe. Looks like somone modified the brackets by removing the metal section that the shorter Business Coupe center top bow goes into, which is to bad as those brackets are very hard to find. So I think you have a modified Dusiness Coupe, but I could be wrong, it won't be the first time!

Re: 1929 Business coupe
I bought this thing from the original owners son. It was taken apart in '63 to be "Restored" Then sat til I bought it a few years ago. It's possible, but I don't think its ever been modified. It's an early '29 according to the firewall.

Re: 1929 Business coupe
Thats cool, I've seen maybe 25 28/29 Sport Coupes and 6 28/29 Business Coupes, but I don't remember this set up. Maybe this is a early 1929 prior to the oval window model input from 28 or early 29 BC owners would be helpful.
