Head Gasket for Winfield Head
I was thinking of trying one of these head gaskets, the Model B version (B-6051-M) , for one of the crows-foot Winfield heads that Tod is making.
Has anyone used these before, any feedback appreciated. Thanks http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/premium-head-gasket |

Re: Head Gasket for Winfield Head
I have used them with good results with a repo aluminium Winfield head but as all ways you need a flat and true deck and head surface
These days I prefer and recommend you go with copper clad gasket |

Re: Head Gasket for Winfield Head
Make sure the gasket matches the head, with no overhang into the chamber. Early B gaskets did not fit the A heads.

Re: Head Gasket for Winfield Head
I've got that gasket under a Winfield alloy head and so far no problems.
I've also had high tensile studs made as the ones available from Snyders are too short for the Winfield head. Also the threads on the Snyder studs are not as accurate as the might be and the purpose made studs sat more perpendicular allowing the head to slip on with less effort. I've torqued it up to 65 ft/lbs with these studs and time will tell if that's too much? Keith |

Re: Head Gasket for Winfield Head
I would wait until the heads are available and ask Tod what he recommends........both for studs, washers, nuts and gasket

However, I can see by your photo that the studs are long enough. My head must have been a little thicker (7:1) or the flats for the head nuts not machined low enough? Keith |

Re: Head Gasket for Winfield Head
That Snyder silicone gasket I had on mine in the past leaked like a sieve. AER sent a Best 573 with my short block to install with my 6:1 head. They also recommended no spray or sealer of any kind. Torqued down to 60 ft lbs., and dry as a bone so far.

Re: Head Gasket for Winfield Head
I have had no luck with the silicone head gasket. I have had good luck with Best Graftite.

Re: Head Gasket for Winfield Head
The other thing is that premium gasket is about .100 thick, it will lower the compression ratio a bit. If you use one you need to torque it serval more times than normal other wise it will blow.
The only time I use them is if the deck was surfaced too much and the piston is hitting the head with a graphite gasket. Other wise the Best brand 573 is the way to go. |
