Default Problems with Electric wipers on a 50 f1

I installed 2 speed electric wipers on my 50 f1, because I put a Walt Dupont motor in it and changed to 12 volt, did not want vacuum wipers, now without wipers it runs good, with wipers the arm from the motor to the pass side hits every time and bends, no matter where I put in in the park spot. anybody know who makes this kit or had similar problems. Thanks

Is the unit a New Port piece? I bought one for my '52, a specific kit for 51-52 trucks that originally came with factory 6v electric wipers. I don't know how it differs from yours, but I had the same exact problem. I finally found that the arms' combined length was too long. I took 1/8" out of one, welded it back together, and all is well. Since the holes in the cowl are spaced the same on 48 thru 52, it's possible they made the same mistake on other kits.

You need to change the geometry of the bell crank on the wiper motor.
Move the hole for connecting the passenger side linkage closer to the motor shaft.

I bought it from Carolina classics, 2 years ago just getting to putting it in, the arms have brass bushings in them, and the arm from the motor to the passenger side does appear to long. when it hits the cross arm it jams and starts to bend. thanks

I had similar problem with my '41 Ford and Vintique's wiper motor. One wiper arm would make a full sweep and other quite a bit less. Tinkered with it off and on for a couple years. Found a sales rep. at a car show and no solution. Finally compared the new bellcrank to the one on the vac motor and there were different. Because one arm is basically horizontal and one is at an angle(stock) from the motor to the wiper arms the geometry is off. Sales rep said no difference. I replaced the elect. with a NOS vac unit and they sweep perfectly. Also make sure left and right are not reversed.
