1949 Mercury Coupe - Door Lock Rod
The inner door knob (that be pushed down or pulled up) has a rod that attached to the mechanism inside the door.
Anyone have a description or picture on how to attach the bent rod? I know it lowers through the hole atop the door. I cannot seem to attach it to the hole at the mechanism inside the door. I just don't get it. Thanks!

Re: 1949 Mercury Coupe - Door Lock Rod
It is installed from inside the door before any door panel or garnish molding is installed.
It is installed into the hole while being held horizontally, then lifted to its vertical position. It is not lowered through the hole atop the door. It may be possible to position it forward enough through the top of the door (without garnish molding in place) to get it past the retainer tab.

My Door Panel and Garnish Molding are still off the door. I now see that I may have to unscrew the latch from the door... To have the latch LOW enough... So I can thread the rod UP through the door hole... AFTER I attach it to the latch All makes sense! Thank you!
