Selling Model A Parts and Paid by Paypal?
If I sell a Model A part for $88 and receive my payment through paypal from a foreign country, how much does Paypal take out of my pay?
To get paid, I just have to give the buyer my email, then he can deposit money through paypal, right? Thanks, Tom |

I believe the rate is 3%.(Which is about the CC fee) The money is put in your Paypal account and you can use it to buy things using Paypal, or you can transfer it to your checking account. I like it because it beats giving out CC numbers, also there have been a few deals over the years that went sour and Paypal gave back my money. In the many years that I have used it I have never had an accounting problem with the amount I spent, and I check it online with both my bank and the Paypal site.

If the buyer sends money through "friends & family"... you don't get charged, they do.
If the buyer sends money "for goods/services" you will be cgarged...not sure if it's a percentage of flat fee...percentage, I think. PayPal site should have that info... |

If the buyer is unhappy for any reason, he can file a greivence with PayPal. They will put a hold on your money in your account. It could go on for a month or more. You could have done nothing wrong.

Re: Selling Model A Parts and Paid by Paypal?
Just from my own experience with PayPal, is that I have been very happy with them. I do a lot of funds transfer overseas with the English Wheel 'stuff' in addition to the usual Model A stuff, tools and armament acquisitions here in the US and have had very little trouble adapting to the requirements. Once figured out it is a breeze. I find the fees charged more than offset the hassle of going to the bank or the post office spending gas and time and a huge number of sellers are using PayPal as well.

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/paypal-fees If the buyer sends the money through Friends and Family from their PayPal balance or from the account linked to their PayPal account, there is no fee. If they send via a credit card or debit card linked to their account there is a 2.9% fee (plus a flat fee). In no case would you be charged if Friends and Family were to be used. If Friends and Family is not used, the fee to the seller is 2.9% plus 30 cents. Keep in mind the buyer may balk at sending the funds via Friends and Family. There is no buyer protection with this method. If the buyer is dissatisfied with the product, there is no recourse through PayPal. The eMail addy you give the buyer has to be your PayPal account name (if that is different from the eMail account name you normally use)

Re: Selling Model A Parts and Paid by Paypal?
the fee is 4% for overseas. I stopped dealing overseas, because a buyer said he didnt recve the item and paypal refunded his $ and I was out..................
If you send through friends and family- you have NO coverage whatsoever. remember that. It is also difficult to insure your item overseas, wo spending a large amount on shipping. once it leaves US soil................... |

That is the downside but it is just one of the risks of selling if you are not face to face. It won't matter much if it is a small cost item but if it is big $$$ you don't have much leverage if the deal goes sour and you don't have the item anymore or the cash in your hand. I have been wanting to sell my Rolex watch but am afraid a buyer will use Paypal and then make a claim that it was counterfeit or broken, which I know it is not. So I won't have the watch or the cash. Or the income to buy another one! |

You can always "gross it up", too. Charge the buyer $91 which covers all your fees. They get the buyer protection, you don't (directly) pay the fees.

I didn't like Paypal and refused to use it when it came out, just didn't like the transaction with people you don't know and I was burned too many times. Today it's different, I use it whenever I can...with descriptions today, a research can be done before purchase.

Paypal can be both good and bad..........
I still use it to buy every week- I just stopped using it for sales. Not worth the two losses I took and no- I wouldnt sell a Rolex through Paypal! cash in hand or money orders that clear first. |

That is why you should sent always by registered mail or with tracking number.
Then you can always prove that the item(s) are sent and Paypall will investgate and not take your money. I wish that were true..............! as I said, I am done with overseas........... good for those that still want to ship-just not me. |

When I use PP to send money O/S for goods or services, I add enough to cover the 3% PP charges. That bit of good will has proven to be GOLD.

Re: Selling Model A Parts and Paid by Paypal?
I have noticed that the fees are good bit more than 3% for last month, taking into account the 30 cent initial charge. Anyone else checked lately? I got screwed by them years ago and quit using there service until recently.

Re: Selling Model A Parts and Paid by Paypal?
I have bought hundreds of small collectible items over the past 10 years, overseas, and used PayPal for all of them. I have never had a problem with either PayPal or eBay, although I know a folks who refuse to use either. Before PayPal, I had to go the bank and a get a check in the foreign denomination, than mail it overseas.....a serious, time consuming hassle. Now I use PayPal, and they already have my address, so it takes about 20 seconds to complete a purchase.

Re: Selling Model A Parts and Paid by Paypal?
There are two possible charges with PayPal when dealing internationally, fees and exchange rates. I pay a hosting fee every month that is charged in dollars but I pay in euros. On PayPal I see it as $ but my balance is altered in €. The US account (the seller) always gets the number of dollars they demand, the amount in euros that I pay (the buyer) varies most months. No other fees are involved as it is set up for friends and family.
